The ATV Training Center just a few miles south of Las Cruces, New Mexico, is just such a place.

Desert Gallery > If you want the GPS stuff write me at ronm@desert-photography.com, and I'll be glad to send you my Garmin track file. The mountains you see in the distance to the west are the Organ Mountains, and they are never out of sight for long on this trail.

Desert Gallery > Since transplanting myself here in 2000, I have yet to tire of the wide open spaces and desert scenery. Getting into the desert is really what the idea of buying a jeep was all about.

Desert Gallery > The trail pretty much follows the edge of a ridge that rises anywhere from about 30 feet to 60 feet from the desert floor. A few of the hills will tilt your vehicle forward 40 degrees or so, and there are some mildly off camber curves. But there is nothing on the trail to set off any alarms bells in your mind if you have even a modicom of offroad experience.

Desert Gallery > You can get a better idea of the sunroof effect of the Sunrider top in this pic. With it open and the windows out, the open air feeling is so complete that I frankly don't envision ever taking the whole top down again.

Desert Gallery > This side road seemed an inviting place to pull over and have some lunch -- namely a Meal-Ready-To-Eat a friend had given me to try out.

Desert Gallery > This MRE was the chicken fajita dinner. After heating the rice and then the chicken, I was surprised to find the chicken was in a thick sauce. It reminded me of a chinese dish. Our army guys and gals eat pretty darn good in the field..this wasn't bad food at all.
